Arkitip started in 1999 with each issue created in conjunction with a specific artist. The assignment for the artists who contribute is to create something original to run in the magazine. Artists have the opportunity to design and layout the art they contribute as well. In many cases, the magazine is part of a package that includes additional items selected by the artist. Making a contribution to Arkitip is like creating your own “installation” that is then distributed around the world. It’s like a traveling exhibition that you can take home. Most issues of Arkitip are hand numbered and signed.
This issue of Arkitip has been put together by Andre Balazs, the hotelier best known in New York for The Standard hotel near the High Line. The catalogue apparently features images of other trendy hotels like the Chateau Marmont, The Mercer, The Raleigh. Helping Balazs with this project is the illustrator Andrew Holder.
