Baird drew from his celebrity art collection for an ambitious Black History Month exhibition at the Paterson Museum in 2000, featuring works by Miles Davis, Donna Summer, Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Dee Williams, and Muhammad Ali. We are offering here “Bebop from Bag One,” the Miles Davis serigraph from Baird’s collection exhibited at the Paterson Museum, and related ephemera.
Baird had his celebrity art collection framed for exhibition. According to the New York Times, he claimed to have spent $500,000 on custom frames—undoubtedly, an exaggeration.
The exhibition press release identifies Miles Davis’s characteristic “electric, zippy thin line.”
