The glory days of the East Village in the late 70’s and early 80’s are captured in this selection of vintage invitation cards, posters and other art ephemera. This carefully curated online exhibition includes gallery announcements, nightclub invites, and underground publications. Among those featured are David Wojnarowicz, Madonna, Richard Prince, Lady Pink, Club 57, CBGB, The Fun Gallery, and Gracie Mansion Gallery.
The Rise of the East Village is a new addition to the website 98 Bowery 1969-89: View From the Top Floor. It is one of a number of new art ephemera sections that add context to a site that tells the story of one artist’s experiences while living on the Bowery.
The items come from Gallery 98, an online store affiliated with 98 Bowery that specializes in collectable art ephemera from downtown New York.
