Amongst artist Joseph Beuys’ innovations was the idea of “social sculpture”, a concept that expands the definition of art to include human activity, and considers art’s potential to transform society. The Free International University was founded by Beuys in Düsseldorf in 1973 as an extension of this idea and would have a number of manifestations in different countries throughout the 70s and 80s.

Stand-outs include posters by Nicole Eisenman, Keith Haring, Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Jeff Koons, Yayoi Kusama, Roy Lichtenstein, Sarah Lucas, Robert Rauschenberg, Faith Ringgold, Julian Schnabel and Christopher Wool.
