Anyone interested in the art and music of 1970s and ’80s downtown New York will certainly want to follow these two new Instagram profiles.
@OnlineGallery98 showcases highlights from the online art gallery’s inventory, and posts new additions as they become available. Gallery 98’s area specialties include vintage periodicals such as Details, Art-Rite, and the East Village Eye; event announcements and posters from East Village galleries, alternative spaces like Fashion Moda, and clubs like Limelight; and works done in various media by members of the artists’ group COLAB.
@98Bowery reproduces the autobiographical narrative told on the 98 Bowery website, using a combination of archival photographs and video, vintage periodicals and ephemera, and artwork from the period. The story ranges from founder Marc H. Miller’s early conceptual-art projects (and work with collaborators Bettie Ringma and Curt Hoppe), to his experience of art and nightlife in 1980s Amsterdam, his columns for the East Village Eye, and much more.
