As part of the launch for the catalogue A Book About Colab (and Related Activities), Printed Matter is hosting an “A. More Store” exhibition, opening tomorrow night, April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. In the 1980s, the A. More Stores were one of the signature activities of the artists group COLAB: artist-run pop-up shops selling low-priced artworks and multiples by group members and friends.
Over the years, Gallery 98 has been a principal promoter of COLAB, through online exhibitions like “Collecting COLAB.” Our inventory includes many objects originally sold at the A. More Stores.
Edited by Max Schumann, and with a foreword and afterword by art writer and COLAB member Walter Robinson, A Book About Colab (and Related Activities) reproduces the documents, publications, artworks, and other material that was brought together for Printed Matter’s October 2011 exhibition “A Show about Colab (and Related Activities).” Among the topics covered are COLAB’s memorable 1980 exhibitions the Times Square Show and the Real Estate Show, and its affiliated exhibition spaces Fashion Moda and ABC No Rio.
The A. More Store exhibition at Printed Matter offers vintage works from the earlier stores as well as new works by artists associated with COLAB. Participants include Becky Howland, Alan W. Moore, Jane Dickson, Bobby G, Tom Otterness, Christy Rupp, Jenny Holzer, Walter Robinson, Tom Warren, Teri Slotkin, Ilona Granet, and others.
Printed Matter is located at 231 11th Avenue, New York.
