Issey Miyake’s collaboration with Irving Penn was notable in that Miyake allowed Penn complete freedom in photographing his garments. According to Aperture, Penn “essentialized Miyake’s structural garments, giving them graphic clarity while turning clothing into living sculpture.” This acclaimed series of photos was later collected in a book, and many can now be found in museum collections.
