Jenny Holzer, Archive, Cheim & Read, Folded Poster, 2006
Following the events of 9/11, Jenny Holzer began working with government documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. For an artist known for her use of words, this series is notable for the censored redactions that hide the words. At first, Holzer exhibited these images by projecting them. For this exhibition, however, she created oil on linen paintings that are permanent images of the “rivalry of ignorance and secrecy.”
