Christian Marclay, The Clock, U.S. Premiere, Paula Cooper Gallery, Press Release, 2011
$75
The exhibition is a looped 24-hour video supercut that feature clocks or timepieces. The artwork itself functions as a clock: its presentation is synchronized with the local time, resulting in the time shown in a scene being the actual time.
“In The Clock, Marclay samples thousands of film excerpts indicating the passage of time. Spanning the range of timepieces, from clock towers to wrist watches and from buzzing alarm clocks to the occasional cuckoo. The Clock draws attention to time as a multifaceted protagonist of cinematic narrative…”
