James Hamilton, Group Photograph with 29 Artists done in conjunction with the Exhibition Show of Strength, Organized by Mary Ann Monforton, Anne Plumb Gallery, 1991

$350

This remarkable group photograph of important women artists was made in conjunction with the exhibition Show of Strength and was featured on the card, catalogue, and poster.

The photo staged by Mary Ann Monforton and taken by James Hamilton includes 29 of the artists; Betty Woodman, Miriam Schapiro, Jane Dickson, Joan Snyder, Joyce Kozloff, Lorna Simpson, Mierle Ukeles, May Stevens, Louise Bourgeois, Judy Pfaff, April Gornik, Mary Beth Edelson, among others.

The Algonguin Hotel, famous for its literary roundtable in the 1920s, lends a historic pedigree to this group of artists, while the tea-party setting both evokes Judy Chicago’s famous Dinner Party and provides a convivial atmosphere for a gathering of women.

What is offered here is an original press photo from 1991. While it is likely that another copy exists, our research was not able to locate others.

Size: 10 x 8 inches
