“C.7, 500″: An exhibition organized by Lucy R. Lippard. Offset print, 5.5″ x 8.5”.
In the early 1970s, artists began to make use of SoHo’s many empty lofts. The not-for-profit A.I.R. Gallery, operated collectively by artists, provided a space for women artists under-represented in the art world. Lucy Lippard, one of the most astute critics and curators of the period, curated this exhibition shortly after publishing the influential Six Years: The Dematerialization of the Art Object.
