Items Under $5, Stefan Eins, 3 Mercer St. Store, Flyer, 1975

Sold

Offset on paper, 11 x 8 ½ in.

Artist Stefan Eins opened the 3 Mercer Store out of the SoHo storefront he had been inhabiting. This rare flyer illustrates Eins’s curatorial vision of a place for low-priced items designed by artists.

The list of participants provides a good take on the downtown art scene of the 1970s: Fluxus artists like George Maciunas and Nam June Paik mix with future COLAB artists like Alan Moore, Judy Rifka, Diego Cortez and Robin Winters, as well as others like Alan Suicide, Hannah Wilke, Edit DeAk and Jaime Davidovitch.
